Cats of the New York City!

ny1

And we are back from New York! Terribly jet-lacked, with bags full of chocolate and shopping, and dying to see little Brucy who stayed with friends, yesterday we got back to Paris from our US holiday.

Needless to say that we found NY amazing. We were lucky to stay in East Village, next to Parsons Design Schoo and NYU – an area full of students, small, unique coffee shops, that reminded me a lot of London. We also visited the Times Square, Brooklyn, Greenwich, Soho and Chelsea – all amazing parts of Manhattan, each unique in its own way. In every part of New York we came across many cat references – in t-shirts, graffitis, books and art plays and here are a few in these photos!

Brucy was delighted to see us and get back home – I never heard her purr so much! So in summary, these very really purrrfect holidays!

The Catastic MoMA selection

moma, art, cat, new york

I am very excited to be going to New York next month for the first time and one of my must-see-places is the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA). I was browsing through their website, looking to reserve tickets, when I came across their amazing online art-inspired store. Being the shopaholic I am, I couldn’t not share some amazing cat things!

For example,  I love this stunning Cat Luggage Tag designed based on a Michael Hartfelder 2010 print for only $8.00. And how beautiful is this red-and-orange, fluid birds mobile designed by C. Saddle and K. Komagata? I think its vivid colours would make it a great addition to any room.  Finally, let’s not forget about our furry friends – this designer fish-pet-mat is just what your cat needs!

Amazing, just another reason to go 🙂

The best cat tree in the world?

collage

I am absolutely in love with this bookcase and cat tree in one – CatCase! I remember spending days looking for a cat tree that is not in neon or in awful leopard print.. This is the perfect solution for people who search for a cat tree that is functional and design!

The best part is that your books are safe as the shelves containing them are protected by a back wall. The only tiny negative is the price – I am sure that many of you agree that 1249 euros is a little bit steep.. But what if we would construct an alternative using the basic Ikea shelves? Anyone wants to take the challenge? 🙂

Don’t miss the L.A.-CAT event of the year!

If you live anywhere close to Los Angeles you simply can’t miss the Cat Art Show L.A.  It’s an amazing art show that presents the most original works of art that all feature cats. Organised for the first time, you will be able to see over 100 art works in different media by a huge variety of artists. Sounds like a puuurrrr-fect show, doesn’t it?

The Cat Art Show takes place from 26 Jan. until the 2 Feb.

Artists participating include: Tracey Emin, Ray Caesar, FAILE, CYRCLE, Gary Baseman, Marc Dennis, Tim Biskup, Anita Kunz, Luke Chueh, Sage Vaughn, Christian Furr, Steve Schapiro, Shepard Fairey and Frank Stefanko. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Stray Cat Alliance.

All I want for Christmas…

xmas

Ahh Christmas is coming so soon and I still have so many presents to get!! Including presents for Brucy!! I am torn apart while picking her gifts – should be a new bed? Or a scratch tree? Or new toys??

I love this gorgeous banana leaf scratch tree, but I also know her love for tunnels and I know she would love this one.

Or maybe a new addition to her Catit Senses toys? Or maybe I should treat her to some dried fish snacks? Ah the choice is too difficult! What are you getting your cat for Christmas?

The perfect cat-christmas present!

shirts

Are you looking for an original Christmas present for a cat-lover? Nothing beats those stunning cat embroided shirts made by a Japanese designer Hiro Kubota! Those orginal shirts are sold at $250 on his profile, at Etsy. Unfortunately, due to their popularity, the shirts are sold out at the moment, but I am not loosing hope that they will reappear for the Christmas period!

Catit Senses Circuit #2: Brucy’s early birthday present..

birthday

As you all know Brucy’s birthday is coming up and I couldn’t resist spoiling this furball, so I bought her a new Catit Senses Circuit. She already had one, so I thought getting her the long version with an illuminated ball would make her even happier. Yesterday, we’ve spent quite some time putting it all together and as a result, we constructed a 2 meter long circuit with two balls! I think Brucy was a bit scared of the illuminated ball(that cleverly lights up only when you touch it), but she quite enjoyed it in the end 🙂

Do you have Catit Senses Circuits? What’s your opinion on them?

Baking cat-shaped cookies!

collage

Whilst shopping this weekend, I came across a set of gorgeous cat shaped cookie cutters at Muji. As I love baking and I love cats – I knew that I had to have them!

Sunday morning my kitchen turned into a cookie factory, with trays of cookies going in and out of the oven, spreading a delicious freshly-baked-cookie smell throughout the house.

The cookies turned out to be amazing and if you are looking for a recipe, here it is:

For 20+ cat-shaped, spicy cookies you will need:

-350 g. of flour

– 250 g. of brown sugar

– 250 g. of unsalted butter (room temperature)

– 1 egg

– 1 tsp. of “four spice mix” (mix of pepper, cloves, nutmeg and ginger)

– 1 tsp. of cinnamon (put 2 tsps if you don’t have the “four spice mix”)

– ½ tsp. of baking powder

– ½ tsp. of salt

  1. With a hand or mechanic mixer, beat the butter and the sugar until smooth. Add the egg and beat until the mixture until it is well combined. In a separate bowl, combine the flour, spices, baking powder and salt. Start adding the flour mixture to the butter and sugar, and beat at medium speed until combined.
  2. Form the dough into a ball and leave it in the fridge overnight.
  3. The next day, take out the dough and separate it into 2 equal parts. Roll out each part separately between two sheets of baking paper. Due to high amount of butter in the dough, it will be very sticky, which is why, you need to roll it out using baking paper. Leave the rolled out dough in the freezer for 20 mins.
  4. While the dough is chilling, pre-heat your oven to 180°C.
  5. Once the dough has hardened, dip the cookie cutters into flour and cut out the shapes. Place the shapes onto a new sheet of baking paper and leave the shapes in the fridge for another 10 mins to harder (this will help the cookies keep their shape when baked).
  6. Once your cookies have cooled, bake them for 10 mins., just once the ends start turning brown. Make sure you watch the cookies when they are in the oven as they can burn quickly if left too long!
